THE FPMC TEMPORARILY SUSPENDS OPERATIONS OF THE TOURIST CENTERS THAT IT ADMINISTERS

Together we will carry on

The Foundation of Parks and Museums of Cozumel (FPMC) will temporarily suspend operations of the tourist centers that it administers from March 23 and until further notice, due to the decrease in visitors caused by the complex situation that is being experienced worldwide.

The Cozumel Island Museum, as well as San Gervasio Mayan Archaeological Site, Chankanaab Adventure Beach Park and Punta Sur Eco Beach Park will suspend their operations for approximately one month, as part of prevention actions carried out throughout the country, announced Emilio Villanueva Sosa, general director of the FPMC.

He explained that this measure was taken in order to safeguard the integrity, health and safety of collaborators and visitors, as well as in response to the call of the World Health Organization and state health authorities to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Villanueva Sosa explained that accompanied by the president of the FPMC, Noemí Ruíz de Becerra, they held meetings with the directors of the institution to provide all workers with clear and timely information about this difficult time and indicated that along with the suspension of operations of the parks, work days will begin from their homes, because now the priority is to take care of their health and that of their families.

He recalled that Cozumel has experienced critical moments in the past, such as the passage of Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and the influenza pandemic (AH1N1) in 2009, but the people of Cozumel have known how to re-emerge from these crises thanks to the union and solidarity that has characterized them despite the material losses and economic inactivity, so he confided that this time it will be no different and soon the destination will be in a position to welcome tourists again with open arms.

“We are sure that together we will succeed because we are a community that knows how to face difficult moments and that we will reinvent ourselves so that as soon as the situation is controlled we will be ready, with new energy to show visitors from all over the world our natural beauties and the warmth with which the people of Cozumel receive them ”, concluded the general director of the FPMC.
